Digipak Research

This Digipak is very artistic and colourful, there are many colours in this Digipak and it draws the attention of the viewer straight away from any other album. In a shop this would stand out and a customer would be drawn straight too this album.

This is Rihanna's Digipak, on the front cover there is a image of her which covers the whole of the cover. This has been done as Rihanna is such a big artist and is known all around the world.

This Digipak belongs to Muse, the cover of this album is very artistic, the first thing which appeals to the audience is the bright colours of the shape which appears on the cover. Their are many colours b

Equipment for the process of the project

Camera -  The camera is the most important part of creating a music video. Without a Camera we wouldn't be able to make the video happen due to not being able to record and upload onto a computer.

Editing Software - Editing software is also very important to making a video, we use this software to edit any part of the video. Any part of the video can be edited with the software.

Tripod - The tripod is used to make sure the camera is stable and so we can get the shot which we want at the right height and right angle. On the tripod there are three different levels in which we can put the camera at a certain height which would be for the shots which we would be about to film.

Blogger - We use blogger to write and publish posts which are involved in the making of our music video, also we keep you updated with the time scale of our video and write posts informing you of the information surrounding the video.

Prezi - We use Prezi to produce presentations, on our blogger we have produced two posts which are based on the music industry.

Role of the record company

In Drake's 'Started from the bottom' their are three record companies which were involved in Drake's single, Young money, Cash money and Republic.
The role of these record companies is to market the music in which their artist produces, the singer is reliant upon these to broaden their consumers.

Also the record company is responsible for marketing the product by selling it to the public and also getting the song and artist promoted and getting the song heard on all the mainstream radio's playing throughout the day but mainly at a time where most of the audience will be listening.

Filming

We will be filming in the near future, as a group we aim to film our first rough copy before Christmas. After the Christmas holiday we will be filming again but this time using the different camera techniques in which we have learnt over the past 2 years.

Also a group decision was made that we will try to film as many times to try and get our music video to the best it can possibly be by getting the camera angles, shot times and the misc-en-scene perfect.

Target Audience

The target audience for our music video is predominately aimed at the range of teenagers to young adults.
The genre of the song is Hip Hop, the stereotypical audience for this genre of music

When Drake released the single 'Started From The Bottom' you could tell straight away that his music video and lyrics were aimed towards the younger generation. The reason for this is the lyrics that Drake uses are very strong and contain explicit words.

About halfway through the video it shows you a young adult smoking a shisha pipe, these are mainly used by the younger generation.

Brand Identity

This is the logo in which we will be using at either the start or the end of our music video to show off our brand identity, also to show that Hollow house Audio were the creators for this specific video.

Synopsis

The video opens with the protagonist gets kicked out of his house  it then changes to a scene set in a run-down street the camera is focused on a tramp (the protagonist) sitting against a building watching passers-by. Occasionally receiving money after a short while a successful businessman (the antagonist) walks up to the tramp offers him money and then snatches it away as the protagonist reaches for it. Leading to the protagonist wanting to improve his life. The video then shows him getting up and looking for a job followed by him taking job interview and finding a house getting promoted and then getting a better house. It ends with the protagonist walking down a street and passing a tramp giving him money.

Location List

These are the locations we are planning on filming at when we chose our exact location we will add it here;

High street:

This is the typical high street in which our group would want to film on, the reasons are for filming here is due to the fact that people who are less fortunate than us tend to sleep rough in urban areas such as city high streets.

Shop front with job offer at front:

This is the type of shop in which we would like too film with, the windows are very clear and with a job sign in the window it is very clear for all the public too see.

Interview rooms x2

Work place x2

This layout for the building will be one of our locations for our protagonist to be working in the music video,

Accommodation x3

For the start of our music video this is where we want our main character to be living for the first clip. Living life on the edge without being able to eat 3 meals a day.

As the music video goes on we want our character to rise up the ladder, slowly moving up to a white collar worker living in a standard 3 bedroom house in a city.

At the end of the music video our character will become wealthy and living in a big posh house, rising from living on the edge only managing to eat a little a day up to being able to eat 3 meals a day with snacks and living in lu
xury.

Artist Details

Drake is a successful recording artist and rapper.
Drake has been recording and rapping since 2006, the first album (Room for Improvement) which he released in 2006, in the whole of 2006 the album only managed to sell 6,000 copies.

This was not a setback for Drake as within the next year he bought out another album (Comeback Season).
Drake went on to release four more albums, the most successful album being his most recent one (Nothing Was The Same),
this album has sold over 1 million copies in the US.

To win 45 Awards and be nominated for 177 is not a bad feat to have produced within your six year career.

As you can see from the picture above Drake has been nominated and won the BET Hip Hop Award many times more than he's won the others, the reason being this is because Drake specialises in the Hip Hop type of music and this has been awarded due to his number of wins.

Chosen song and reason for choice

There are many reasons why my group and I chose this song, one of the reasons is the song title 'Started From The Bottom'. Our music video is about a man who started off living with the bare minimum and not being able to sleep with a roof over his head, as the music video goes on the man will slowly move up the life ladder, going from the bottom steadily moving up to the top going through an average person's lifestyle up to being a businessman.

Moodboard

Our music video expresses the emotions of an individual character on his journey to become successful and overall happy.

The mood board shows in images the emotions that will be represented in the video..

Location Scout

Here are images which our group have taken, the reason why we have taken these is that in our film we plan for the tramp to have an interview in a job. This is why we have been location scouting to find a room which would suit an interview.

We have a rough idea in which we want to do, we would like to film in a rural area in which a lot of pedestrians walk past, so it might make people feel sorry for him.

Copyright Research

Drake signed a contract with universal, he handed over the rights to his songs.

This image shows that artist Drake is signed by Universal Music, it also shows you the other artists who are signed to them.

Music Video Idea

Risk Assessment

As we are planning to produce a music video there are always going to be some issues as such we must plan for as many of these as possible and have a plan of action to rectify this and we must plan ahead to avoid that what we cannot change. As such I am going to list as many as I can think of
One of the performers is unable to attend due to circumstance; if this happens we should first film scenes that do not contain this performer. If the performer is still unable to attend we need a backup performer.
The weather changes between scenes; this is something we can’t change therefore we must check the weather beforehand and plan ahead.
A performer gets lost/ doesn't turn up; contact details should be made accessible to minimize this.
If the camera battery dies: Bring spare batteries/ make sure camera is fully charged.
If there are too many  people in the area; film the scene later when there are less people around.

A performer gets injured; make sure that the is a first aid kit available.

Storyboard

These pictures are our group's storyboard, the pictures and descriptions are a rough idea of what will happen in our music video. When filming our music video we will aim to stick to the storyboard and use the ideas in which we wrote up on here.

Results of the questionnaire

We produced a questionnaire for our target audience. We will analyse the results, these will help us make an appealing music video.

Permission letter

The print screen shown underneath shows the email in which we produced and sent to mediauk, these own the rights to Drake's music.

Film Idea

Our music video is 'Drake Started From The Bottom'.
As a group we have now fully agreed on our music idea.

Our music video is based around a man who is less fortunate than the rest of us, he is currently living on the streets due to lack of money and bad luck with his life.

One day when he's sitting around on the corner of the street this white-collar worker laughs at him whilst walking past, he mulls over this and then the man laughing spurns him on to make a man of himself and actually try and be successful in life to make himself happy.

He gets himself a job at the local shop, he brings his life up steadily by gaining a promotion in his job. He moves into a flat and gradually moves up in life.

Codes and Conventions

The video which I will be analysing is 'Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West - Run This Town'

Representation
The genre of this song is Hip Hop but with a little touch of grime, this is shown by some of the people in the shots, the fact that they're wearing chains, balaclavas and do-rags shows the audience that this video is quite strong and not for the younger generation.

Audience

Jay-Z's music video is particularly aimed at teenagers, the use of the language in the video is definitely not for kids, the language is very explicit and they always talk about

Purpose of music video in the digital age

The purpose of a music video in the digital age is too promote the song they bring out. They sell products through the use of their videos, the main product which they sell through the video is the actual song itself.
Music videos are an unusual way of selling the product because they can be an unusual way of marketing as it allows their audience full access to the product they are selling.

History of music videos

In 1894 using a magic lantern, Thomas projected a series of still images on a screen simultaneous to live performances. This would become a popular form of entertainment known as the illustrated song, the first step toward music video.

Music video's have changed a lot over the years, the first music video ever to be released as a promotional video was Bohemian Rhapsody, and that was released in 1975.
Over the years the quality of the music videos has changed, now when watching music videos on YouTube their is an option for you to change the quality of the video ranging from 144p 1080p.

You can tell the difference straight away from watching the two clips.

Digipak

Digipak's typically consist of a gate fold (book-style) paper board or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside.
The DVD usually attached in the Digipak is an extended CD of the songs or a DVD add-on showing how the singer created the video or a montage of their music which is placed on the album.
Digipak's are becoming very popular with the public.

Sometimes Digipak's can be quite artistic and bright to attract and entice the customer into buying them.
In a digipak there will be a resemblance to the artist image, this links to the brand image of the artist.

This is a digipak from Rihanna's album LOUD

Website

The point of a website is too allow their fans and viewers/readers to browse the site and keep up with the latest news. The band/artist will usually have their tour dates on the page so they can keep the fans up to date   with where and when they will be performing, also they will have links to pages where you can purchase the tickets for the tour dates.
The band/artist will allow you to preview their upcoming new song and give you a taste of what it will sound like and to hopefully try and get you to purchase it in the future when it is released, they may also sell merchandise e.g. clothing, pictures, programmes and autobiographies.

Here is a screen capture of Tinie Tempah's webpage
